Have you often wished you could expand the possibilities of your 300 dpi HP printer. Yes, there is a modification file already posted here on Genie about how to do it using two small pieces of 1/2" dowel. However, I found that although this method provides some capabilities, it is inherently unstable and doesn't provide true centering of your odd sized paper.
After much prototyping I have developed the attachments required for the HP Deskwriter (and should fit the DeskJet also). This requires that you purchase a single sheet feeder cover HP Part #92295R. Mine cost about $40.00 from my local HP dealer. If you can get it cheaper then good for you. The paper tray cover for the HP series and the Laserwriter series are supposed to be the same exact part. However, I stuck with the HP product for the HP printer.
OK, so you go out and purchase the paper tray cover with the single sheet centering feed built in. Now what do you do with it to make it work? First of all let me tell you that I have contacted HP with the idea and it has been forwarded to their factory for evaluation. Will they offer an attachement to perform this paper handling task? Who knows? But I can provide you with the necessary attachments to put on your single sheet feeder that will make it as simple as removing your paper tray and inserting the newly modified single sheet feeder. The new variable width feeder is rock stable and if you follow my directions will be exactly centered so when you center something on your page layout, it will center on the printer. How would you like to feed cardstock through your printer and make your own business cards? I've been doing it for about 8 months now! Don't let anyone tell you it can't be done. If you need proof, send me a stamped self addressed envelope and I will send you one of my business cards that I printed on my Deskwriter.
So what's this wonderful modification kit going to cost? No it's not free but it is a large step beyond what's already available. Am I trying to make a killing? No I'm not. I'm asking only $5.00 for the complete plans and instructions. They include exact size templates and measurements for the modification. If you don't want to hassle with it just send me $10.00 and I will send you the hardware kit consisting of the attachment legs, screws, nuts and washers. All you need to do is follow the directions and you should have your single sheet feeder cover modified and installed within 30 minutes. Option 3 - if you can't stand the thought of messing up the single sheet feeder cover, You can send it to me with a money order for $20.00 and I will modify your cover, test it and send it back.
